Torah has 613 commandments

Sacrificed animals are to have no defects “Holocaust” comes from Greek (holokauston)

The Bible’s first five books--the Torah--give 613 commandments. Around 150 of these concern animal sacrifices.

Leviticus 3:6 -- “If you offer an animal from the flock as a fellowship offering to the Lord, you are to offer a male or female without defect.”

Priests often ate parts of the sacrificed animal, but another type of sacrifice has the animal completely burned--a “holocaust.”

“Holocaust” comes from a Greek word (holokauston) that translates the Hebrew olah. “Holocaust” has two parts: "a completely (holos) burnt (kaustos) sacrificial offering."
