How often do you think about the joy you have in your life?

That may sound like a strange question, because it is.

If you had a "joy meter" on the dashboard of your life, where would it hover as you cruise through an average day?

Would it be in the red section, low and to the left? Or would it read healthy and full?

Joy is an important theme spoken of throughout the Bible.

And this is why we are including it in the Wise Guys message series, a study of the Book of Proverbs. Today our focus is Proverbs 17 verse 22, "A joyful heart is good medicine …"

We start by examining the differences between happiness and joy.

• Happiness is external, joy is internal.
• Happiness is based on chance; joy is based on choice.

From there we explore what the Bible says we ought to be joyful in…

Salvation / Serving / Giving / Worship / Witness / Trials and Attitude.

We will then conclude our study by focusing in on what God's Word says it takes to cultivate a joyful heart.

2. Cultivate a forgiving spirit.
3. Cultivate a focus on things above.
4. Cultivate a long-range view of life.
5. Cultivate a load lifting lifestyle.

Joy is an amazing thing!
