Then Daniel went to his house and made the matter known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions, and told them to seek mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that Daniel and his companions might not be destroyed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. Then the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. — Daniel 2:17-19

So Daniel finds himself in a stressful situation.

And I don't know about you, but a few times in my life I have been in very stressful situations. Some of those moments are stress that results from my sin and selfishness. And then, at other times, those moments result from a step of faith with God. And if I had to evaluate where I spend more time stressing, it would be from the former, not the latter. But that is not the case in this situation. Daniel, by faith, has inserted himself into a unique moment. One that God can only resolve. And it has to be stressful. And so he returns to his home, gathers his friends, and prays relentlessly for two things — mercy from God and the mystery of the dream revealed. He knows he needs God's mercy to receive the revelation of an unknown dream. And that there are no other means to resolve this issue.

I often wonder if we don't see God's greatness because we can do most things ourselves. We trust our strength, ingenuity, strategy, ability, and talents more than God. We think we'll take that first step when we have enough saved and prepared or maybe when we have enough training and education. But what we mean when we respond this way is that we trust ourselves more than God. We attempt to reduce the leap of faith to only a reasonable step. And in the end, we miss out on the great things God wants to do for us with much less human effort.

In this situation, Daniel put himself in a precarious position. He took a massive leap of faith. It was a leap that was beyond human reach. And he does not do this to put God to the test. Instead, he was faithful. And by doing so, God did something extraordinary. He extended mercy and gave Daniel the dream and its meaning.

I still believe God wants to do stuff like this in our time. He wants to use men like us in homes, workplaces, and churches around this country and the world. But we must be humble. We need to be praying. We need to seek God's mercy. And we have to start taking some leaps of faith. Fellas, where do you need to take a leap of faith today?

ASK THIS:  Where do you need to take a leap of faith today?

DO THIS: Leap.

PRAY THIS: God, as I leap in faith, be faithful.
