By taking a look at Scripture without preconceived ideas of Calvinistic belief, one can clearly see that it is possible to resist the Holy Ghost because faith is a free will decision to believe. The Jews in
Acts 2:37 responded to Peter's preaching by being pricked in their heart and asking what they needed to do to be saved. They then listened to Peter and responded in faith by repenting and getting baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. The Jews in
Acts 7, on the other hand, heard Stephen's preaching and were even cut to the heart just like the Jews in
Acts 2, but they instead chose to resist the Holy Ghost and walk in disobedience to the point of killing Stephen. This totally speaks against the doctrine of Irresistible Grace that Calvinists believe. God does not force His love on anyone. His love must be freely received because it is freely given and offered to all. We must have faith (which is a free will decision) to either receive His love or not.
