If you ever want an honest assessment of what we and our world are like, read Isaiah 59. It lays out the case how sinful we are and how powerless we are to save ourselves with phrases like "truth is nowhere to be found" and "there was no justice" (Isaiah 59:15). Sound familiar? Thankfully, God decided to do something about it. Instead of destroying us, God rolled up his sleeves and came into our world to save us. "His own arm achieved salvation for him" (Isaiah 59:16). This is what the season of Lent is about: Watching Jesus achieve salvation for us!
