After Moses died, God wanted Joshua to lead His people into the Promised land. Joshua had been Moses' helper and he believed that God would help the Israelites claim the land which He has promised to them.. God repeatedly (4x) told Joshua to be strong and courageous; for He will be with Joshua just as He was with Moses.

God reminded Joshua to obey the laws that He had given to Moses. Obeying the laws will help Joshua and his people enjoy a good life in the Promised land.

The Lord assured Joshua that He will be with him wherever he goes. The people were happy that Joshua was their new leader and they echoed God's words to Joshua; "Be strong and of good courage."
