Castigation (2:1–5)

At a place called Bokim (in Hebrew it means “weepers”), “the angel of the Lord” sternly rebukes Israel for making treaties with the people living in Canaan and for failing to drive them out. In faithfulness to His covenant, God gave Israel the land, but would not drive out their enemies because Israel had not obeyed Him (2:1-5).

My immediate devotional response to reading: God is faithful, and we are not because complete obedience is hard for us.
