QUESTIONS FOR THIS BIBLE STUDY
(1) Read Exodus 24:4—8. How does this event point forward to our “sprinkling with [Jesus’] blood” in Holy Baptism?
(2) What does that expression “born again” mean? For help, see John 3:3—7.
(3) What kind of “inheritance” has the heavenly Father prepared for you and other believers? (vv. 4—5).
(4) What role does faith play in receiving the blessings of God?
(5) If God is in control of the universe, why does He allow us to suffer? (vv. 6—7).
(6) Personal reflection: what is the quality, the value of your faith at this time in your life?
(7) 1 Peter 1:6 and 8 describe these persecuted Christians as rejoicing. Why are they rejoicing?

ANSWERS FOR THIS BIBLE STUDY
(1) When Moses confirmed Israel in the covenant, he mixed the blood of the sacrifices with water and sprinkled it on the people to illustrate the bond and the blessings of God’s Word for them. In Holy Baptism we are also bound with God, our Father, and washed from our sins through the blood of Christ. (Compare Revelation 1:5; 7:14.)
(2) We are born again by water and the Spirit in Holy Baptism. God gives us new life in Baptism.
(3) “Imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven.” People experiencing persecution and loss of property would find this inheritance especially welcome.
(4) Faith signs on to God’s blessings and acknowledges His gifts to us so that we might receive the benefits.
(5) God purifies and matures us through suffering, the “tested genuineness” of our faith.
(6) Answers will vary. Reflect on both the benefits you receive from your faith and also the quality of your faith before God.
(7) They rejoice that their inheritance is “guarded through faith” for them and they look forward to the outcome of their faith---eternal salvation.
(8) Answers will vary. Consider making a list of the joys God gives you now.
(9) He accomplishes these blessings “through faith.”
