Our Heavenly Father will not allow us to continue in our sinful ways and He will chastise us as it is His desire that we walk in His holy ways and progress in our faith.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
God sends afflictions into our lives to refine us and not consume us. Even in afflictions, God is merciful as He does not deal with us according to what we deserve or we would have been destroyed long ago. “It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23) God deals with us with a wise and loving hand, with the aim to burn away our dross and refine us as gold.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What should we do when we are chastised by God? We must quickly confess our sins to God and ask for His forgiveness, for our fellowship with Him to be restored again. We must not harden our hearts or think hard thoughts of God, for He always acts for our spiritual good.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He (God) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do not despise God’s chastening. Submit to His will in your life and obey Him according to what He has commanded in His Word.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you have fallen into temptation and sinned, or if you have backslidden from the Lord, God is awaiting with open arms like the father in the parable of the prodigal, waiting for you to come home (Luke 15:11-32). He is ever ready to forgive, to enfold you in His arms and to restore the joy of your fellowship with Him again.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hosea 6:1 “Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for He hath torn, and He will heal us; He hath smitten, and He will bind us up.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Luke 15:20 “And he (the prodigal son) arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.”
