(Genesis 50:19-20)
[19] And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God? [20] But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

The years of anguish that Joseph had experienced from the time he was sold by his brothers as a slave, and the years of painful slavery in Egypt, could have made him a bitter and angry man.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Instead, Joseph saw God’s hand guiding his future and God’s purpose in working all things out for good, even when he was placed in an evil situation. Joseph recognised that although he was personally hurt, vengeance belonged to God alone to deal with the wickedness of his brothers (Romans 12:18).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
He lovingly and graciously responded to his brothers, instead of lashing out at them for the evil they had done to him. His brothers deserved to be punished, but Joseph not only showed them mercy, he extended grace to them by giving them the opposite of what they deserved; he promised to nourish them and their little children. May we learn from Joseph to forgive those who have hurt us deeply and not only to show mercy, but also grace to them!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
By his actions, Joseph reflected the image of Jesus Christ. We, as sinners, deserved to be punished by God for our sins. But Jesus extended His grace to us by sacrificing His life in our place for our sins on the cross. He resurrected the third day for the justification of us sinners who trust in Him as our Saviour. Praise God for His grace that saves us through faith in Jesus Christ alone!
