When attacked by a million-strong Ethiopian army, King Asa immediately cried out to God for help. He relied on JEHOVAH, the covenant-keeping God to fight the battle for Judah. God smote the Ethiopians before Asa and they gained a complete victory and much spoil.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2 Chronicles 16:8 “Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the LORD, He delivered them into thine hand.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let us learn from King Asa’s example.
1. The first thing Asa did was turn to God for help instead of seeking human wisdom. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. He pleaded with God, recognising God’s great power to help the kingdom of Judah. He acknowledged that his small army had no power against the Ethiopians and he demonstrated great faith in God’s ability to win the battle for them despite their weakness. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. King Asa depended completely on God’s help and his army went into the battle, relying on God’s presence and power that was with them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. Asa reminded God that they are His people, and for the sake of His glory, He must fight and win the battle for them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Likewise, when we plead with God in prayer, we must recognise our helplessness and praise God for His omnipotence to help us in difficulties. Our confidence in overcoming trials must be in God alone; we win life’s battles when we lean hard on the everlasting arms of God and not on our own strength. In our petitions to God, we can pray for God to help us so that He can be glorified in our lives.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
God is the first Person you turn to in all situations, whether big or small. Be encouraged that God is always there eagerly waiting for you to call on His Name so that He can help you: “But when they in their trouble did turn unto the LORD God of Israel, and sought Him, He was found of them.” (2 Chronicles 15:4)
Remember to always praise and thank the Lord, in good and bad times.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
See all difficulties in life as opportunities for God to be your very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1) and for God’s Name to be glorified in your life.
