We fulfil the law of Christ, which is the law of love, when we exercise forgiveness, forbearance and compassion towards our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

In this chapter, apostle Paul writes of how we ought to deal gently and kindly with our brethren who have fallen into sin, knowing that we ourselves are as prone as them to be overcome by temptation. We should mourn for them and not triumph in our brother’s falls, showing him God’s Word and through prayer, bring him to repentance.

We bear one another’s burdens when we show love. What is love?

“Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth...” (1Corinthians 13:4-8)

Our ability to love comes from God; when we are walking closely with our Saviour by reading His Word and prayer, we are filled with His love and forgiveness for us, and will seek to love others as Jesus loves us. “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God” (2Corinthians 3:5)

We love our brethren when we pray for one another. “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men” (1Timothy 2:1) It is also our duty as believers of Jesus to pray for others as God has set us aside to be a special people, a royal priesthood (1Peter 2:9).

Let us not be weary of doing good as God promises to reward us. As long as we have breath, let us love one another and show love to others, so that the world can witness the love of Christ and glorify His name. Our love in Christ will be especially stark in the end times when people are selfish, unthankful and wicked (2Timothy 3:1-5).

“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” (John 13:34-35)

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
