Life is a struggle for the Christian; not only are there battles outside, the hardest battles may be those that rage on the inside.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We may lament like Paul, “For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.” (Romans 7:19) When we strive to live a holy life, we are often tempted by our sinful nature and Satan to commit sin. We become frustrated when we find ourselves struggling with the same sin over and over again.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
God comforts us in His Word that we are not alone in our struggle against sin. God the Holy Spirit dwells in us forever once we trust in Jesus as our Saviour; He is with us to fight our battles against sin. He wars against our sinful desires, giving us power to resist temptation and to walk right with God.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41) Jesus teaches us to keep praying so that we will not fall into temptation and sin against our Heavenly Father.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Everyday, we must pray for God’s power to uphold us and to protect us from situations that would tempt us to sin: “...lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” (Matthew 6:13)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The very fact that we struggle against sin is evidence of the Holy Spirit’s work of sanctification in our lives; sanctification is a continuous process after salvation in Christ, where we grow to become more Christ-like in holiness. The Holy Spirit will teach us God’s Word, convict us whenever we fall into sin so that we will confess our sins to God, get up and walk with the Lord again.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our fellowship with our Heavenly Father which was affected when we sinned, is immediately restored when we repent and confess our sins to God: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1John 1:9)
We can never lose our salvation in Christ as the Holy Spirit is the seal of our salvation (Ephesians 4:30).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thank God that ALL our sins have been forgiven by God through faith in Christ’s substitutional atonement on the cross! The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin and the wrath of God no longer abides on us (2Timothy 1:9-10). “...Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.” (Micah 7:19); “I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.” (Isaiah 43:25)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Praise God for His amazing grace towards sinners like us! Keep striving to live a holy life for God’s glory, keep struggling against sin, depending on the power of God to do so until Christ brings you to Glory!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto His heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” (2 Timothy 4:18)
