No one could oppose God’s will in freeing Israel from their captivity in Babylon. In Isaiah chapter 45, Isaiah prophesied that King Cyrus would be appointed by God to free the Jews, more than a century before he was even born!
God who created all things is Omnipotent and He is Sovereign over the affairs of the world. We, as finite creatures, can never comprehend the infinite nature of God, yet we can trust in His steadfast and unchanging character as revealed to us in the Bible.
Isaiah 55:9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
God may allow certain things to happen in our lives and in the world, for which we may never understand why. The verses in Isaiah 45 tell us to leave the big questions in God’s hands – let God be God who is Sovereign, and let us, who are finite, trust ourselves in the hands of our Just and Merciful Creator.
The world is imperfect - nature and human nature are corrupt as a result of sin. Man is accountable for his deeds and while God does prevent evil in certain situations, He allows evil to run its course and will judge the world for sin in His perfect timing.
"But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men." (2Peter 3:7)
"For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil." (Ecclesiastes 12:14)
God in His wisdom makes perfect decisions; He is never unjust in all things that He allows to happen as He is immutably Holy and Just (Isaiah 57:15)
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
God’s special grace and mercies are upon His children; we who believe in Jesus as our Saviour can be assured that whatever God allows to happen in our lives, He will work all things out for our good (Romans 8:28).
What about others in the world? Jesus tells us to leave them in the hands of God – He will handle everything. On our part, we are to walk closely with our Saviour, spreading the gospel to others that they may find salvation and refuge in Christ.
John 21:22 “Jesus saith...what is that to thee? follow thou Me.”
