Proverbs 6:16-19
16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look (haughty eyes), a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

A haughty spirit or having haughty eyes means that we look down upon others in a condescending way. We think more highly of ourselves than we should.
The expression “looking down our nose” at someone applies here.
Haughty eyes are an arrogant man’s windows to the world
A proud look speaks of a person who would want his or her will above the will of God and the will of others. It speaks of people who are arrogant and full of themselves.

Romans 12:3

Difference between Pride & Haughty
Solomon lowers his gaze from the eyes to the heart. (Proverbs 16:5).
Pride expresses a feeling about oneself, one's associates, etc. without expressing anything negative about others. To be haughty, is a negative. Haughty people may or may not have anything, in particular, they are proud of, but they feel and/or behave in a manner suggesting others are inferior.
(Proverbs 16:18)
Solomon lowers his gaze from the eyes to the heart.
“Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the LORD; be assured, he will not go unpunished” (Proverbs 16:5).
1. The proud man harbors judgment and bitterness, instead of harboring thoughts of love to others.
2. He expresses disparagement, instead of expressing kindness and compassion,
3. He is convinced of his superiority in achievement, intellect, morality, or spirituality.
4. He is self-obsessed.

God hates pride because it is the root cause of all forms of sin.
It was through Pride that the devil became the devil:
it is the complete anti-God state of mind.”

Pride is a state of mind or, more essentially, a condition of the heart in which a person has supplanted the rule of God over his life with the rule of his own will. Instead of depending entirely on God, as was God’s design, a proud heart now looks to itself to decide what is good and evil. This was exactly what happened to Adam and Eve when they determined to disobey God to become like God.
Pride is at the top of the list of sins that God hates.

. The Bible warns us what pride will lead to.Beware of Selfish Ambition:

Another cause for the fall of Satan was a selfish ambition - the desire to be something that he was not. (Isaiah 14:12-14).

Before he fell Lucifer was God's anointed guardian cherub, but when prideful sin entered his heart and he challenged God's supremacy.

1. Satan was defeated at the cross!
2. The ripple effects of his evil deeds will continue to reverberate around the globe in which his murderous lies and satanic deceit have weakened the nations.
3. Blinded men's eyes and hardened the hearts of those that are perishing.
4. Christ will return to set up His millennial kingdom and Satan will be flung into the bottomless pit - and the earth will be filled with the glory of God!

James 4:6—“God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” . God wages war against them and thwarts them. Pride provokes God to wrath and indignation; it irritates him, agitates him, and displeases him beyond words.

Pride is the soil in which all manner of sin germinates and grows. Proverbs 16:18-19
Pride is that ugly part of your heart that causes you to be more concerned about yourself and your own reputation than you are about Christ and his.

Stay clear for:
1. Envy
2. Bitterness
3. Strife
4. Deceit
5. Hypocrisy
6. Slander
7. Greed

Summary of pride is found in Proverbs 26:12—“Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him” (Prov. 26:12).

Uproot pride from our hearts?
1 Corinthians 4:7.

Pride is taking credit for what God has done.
The hand of God is to take the first step in defeating and dethroning pride from our hearts.
