Prelude “Shall We Gather at the River?” J. Holstein

Welcome
Call To Worship
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
The Spirit of God swept over the face of the waters;
then God said: Let there be light, and God saw that it was good.
At the beginning of his ministry, Jesus was baptized by John.
The heavens opened, and the Spirit descended like a dove;
then God said: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Hymn 703: Jesus, Thy Boundless Love to Me
1 Jesus, thy boundless love to me
no thought can reach, no tongue declare;
O knit my thankful heart to thee,
and reign without a rival there!
Thine wholly, thine alone, I’d live;
myself to thee entirely give.
2 O grant that nothing in my soul
may dwell, but thy pure love alone;
O may thy love possess me whole,
my joy, my treasure, and my crown!
All coldness from my heart remove;
may every act, word, thought be love.
3 O Love, how gracious is thy way! All fear before thy presence flies;
care, anguish, sorrow melt away where’er thy healing beams arise.
O Jesus, nothing may I see, nothing desire, or seek, but thee.

Prayer of Confession
God of all glory, you look from heaven and see us as we are—
not worthy to kneel at your feet, not ready to welcome your way.
Forgive us, gracious God.
In Christ, stoop down to save us; loosen the ties that bind us to sin
and set us free to love and serve you; in Jesus’ name. Amen.
In this time of silence, hear the confessions of our hearts.
Amen.

Prayers of the People & The Lord’s Prayer
All-glorious God, maker of heaven and earth, hear us as we pray:
(...)
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Hymn 724: O Jesus, I Have Promised
1 O Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end;
be thou forever near me, my Master and my friend;
I shall not fear the battle if thou art by my side,
nor wander from the pathway if thou wilt be my guide.
3 O let me hear thee speaking in accents clear and still,
above the storms of passion, the murmurs of self-will;
O speak to reassure me, to hasten or control;
O speak, and make me listen, thou guardian of my soul.
4 O Jesus, thou hast promised to all who follow thee
that where thou art in glory there shall thy servant be.
And, Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end;
O give me grace to follow, my Master and my friend.
