• Jesus willingly offered Himself as a substitute for all sinners as He surrendered to arrest, false accusations, and illegal trials to carry out God’s sovereign plan.
Matthew 26:53-54 o Substitution rises throughout the Bible as an important concept regarding salvation.
o The chief Greek term that expresses the principle of substitution is the word huper, which means “on behalf of” or “in another’s place.” This means we are saved because God sent Jesus to die on behalf of us or in our place.
o Jesus, the sinless Son of God, became our substitute. He stood in our place and took God’s wrath upon Himself on behalf of our sins so that He might save us.
o Jesus, the sinless Lamb of God, became sin for us, as our substitute.
