Awesome that you are joining and studying the Bible again! Here is the text I'm reading:

1 Timothy 6:8, “But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.“

Interesting points:
1. In this verse Paul develops his teaching on contentment by addressing the most basic, necessary elements for survival. These elements contrast what is essential with what is desired and accentuate the difference between "needs" and "wants."

2. In Philippians 4:12-13 Paul tells us, “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.” These verses remind us that we can be content even without our needs being met but how much more so when they are! When God provides and gives us strength, it is amazing that we “lack for nothing” spiritually.

3. This perspective cannot be separated from Verse 7 since nothing we "own" in this life is ours forever. We begin and end life with no material possessions and God neither owes nor promises us worldly success. Even as we exert our best efforts to grow what God has entrusted to us, we need to be satisfied with what we have!

Application.
What a fitting verse to remember to count our blessings and recount the ways God has showered us with love, grace, mercy, abundant lives (no matter what our net worth or income looks like), salvation and so much more. If we have clothes on our back and food on our table and have enough to share with others, we have every reason to be content physically.

As the complete opposite, we can take the crazy sale and discount offers on Black Friday as an example, let’s remember that advertisers would like us to believe their goods are “essential” as they try to create an appetite to purchase them. Rather than get caught up in all the hype, let’s be deliberate in hungering after our Lord and all that He has in store for us instead!
