In this brief video, Jerry Robinson briefly comments on the words of Jesus Christ as found in the gospel of John 18:35,36.

This passage reveals a dialogue between Jesus and Pontius Pilate. (As the governor of the Roman province of Judaea, Pilate had jurisdiction over the Sanhedrin's legal charges against Jesus.)

35 Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?”

36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”

- John 18:35, 56 (ESV)

Jesus makes one thing clear in this statement to Pilate. Namely, that His Kingdom was not of this world and therefore had no violent military force to defend it.

If Christ's Kingdom were indeed "of this world," then His servants (disciples) "would have been fighting" to stop the Jewish leaders from their plot to kill Him.

In a world where there is so much fighting, we should all quietly reflect upon what it means that the Kingdom of Christ is not of this world and therefore does not rely upon violence for its promotion.

History, both early and recent, is filled with tragic instances where this simple, yet vital, distinction was ignored.
