All of God’s attributes are very important and worthy of much study, for they encourage spiritual growth in the life of every believer. God’s holiness and righteousness are especially on display in His response to Korah’s rebellion in Numbers 16:23-35. His judgment issues from His holiness, or moral purity, and is always righteous-that is, it is in conformity with His own holy nature and character. God’s righteousness is not like human righteousness, which often is adherence to some arbitrary standard of behavior. We who have put our faith in Christ for salvation have been declared positionally righteous. In practice, we should be growing daily in righteousness or conformity to God’s holy standards, as the Holy Spirit works in us through God’s Word.
God’s holiness and righteousness teach us important aspects of how we must think and act in order to be in alignment with the Lord’s character (Bible, Expositor and Illuminator Union Gospel Press, Fall Quarter 2021).
