Paul's prayer for the believers in Corinth is characterized by two themes:

1. Characterized by Thankfulness. v.4-8
Paul was grateful for God’s PAST work in their lives (4-6)

Paul was grateful for their PRESENT reality in Christ (7)

Paul was grateful for God’s promise of hope for their FUTURE (7b-8)

2. Characterized by Confidence. v.9
Paul’s Confidence is reasonable because of the character of God – “God is faithful”

Paul’s Confidence is reasonable because of the effectual call of God – “by whom you were called”

Paul’s Confidence is reasonable because of the fellowship believers have in Jesus Christ – “called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
