The beginning of wisdom is this: GET WISDOM!

As I began to prepare this series I almost forgot this verse. I was trying to pick verses that I didn't cover during the 31 Days of Wisdom. However, since the series is named #GetWisdom, I couldn't leave it out.

Years ago when I first heard this verse it was in a different version. If I recall correctly it said, "Wisdom is the chief thing, therefore get wisdom,  and in all your getting get understanding." Again, my memory might not be the best.

There are some things we should definitely go after and some things we should leave alone. Wisdom is one of those things we should get after, chase, hun down and treasure once we get it. So Let's Get Wisdom!

When I was growing up, I frequently stopped at garage sales—I was looking for valuables that other people were getting rid of because they no longer deemed them valuable. Our verse today has something to do with this: things of which we should or should not rid ourselves.

Let’s get wisdom. Proverbs 4:7 says, “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.”Get it, get it, get it. If you want to be wise, if you want wisdom, you must begin by searching for it. I love this chapter, because it shows us the value of seeking wisdom.

It’s so important to get wisdom. Some people don’t seek out or pay attention to wisdom. Instead, they throw it away because they don’t see the value in it. This is like a person getting rid of stuff at a yard sale; they don’t see the value in those objects. But we should be like the people going to garage sales, searching for value in someone else’s items. We should always see the value in wisdom, and never get rid of it.

I heard it said once that “if it weren’t for people, life would be easy.” Work is complicated. School is complicated. Family relationships are complicated. We need wisdom to manage all of these. If we seek out wisdom, it will be useful. If we apply it to how we live out our lives each day, we’ll be living better.Out of all the stuff we seek out in life, wisdom should be at the top.

Let’s read our verse one more time: “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight,” (Proverbs 4:7).
