Psalm 51 is a prayer for forgiveness of sins. It is a repentance prayer song. David prayed for God's forgiveness of his sin of adultery and murder and God answered his prayer. Not only God has forgiven him, He restored him as well.
God is gracious and full of compassion. He loves to see us humble ourselves and repent of our sins before Him . It is promised in 1 John 1:9, "if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all our unrighteousness."
Psalm 51:7-12
Clease me with hyssop and I shall be clean
Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow
Let me hear joy and gladness
Let the bones you have broken may rejoice
Hide Your face from my sins
And blot out all my iniquities
Create in me a pure heart, O God
And renew a steadfast spirit within me
Do not cast me away from Your presence
Or take Your Holy Spirit from me
Chorus
Restore to me
the joy of Your salvation
And grant me a willing spirit
to sustain me
