Psalm 89:30-32 If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments; [31] If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; [32] Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.
*The children* did forsake the law, statutes, commands of God. Every last one of us did. Thats why Isaiah 53:6 says: *All we* like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; ....
God told us exactly what he will do when this happens, he will *visit* our transgression with *the rod,* and their iniquity with *stripes.* Sounds like he is promising a beating. And he is, but let's read the rest of Isaiah quoted above and see who gets the beating:
Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; *and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all*.
Jesus, the rod:
Isaiah 11:1 And there shall come forth *a rod* out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
Received stripes for our sin, why? To bring correction.
Proverbs 22:15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
Now, when we receive "the rod", HE will drive the foolishness from our heart:
Colossians 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
We, are/were the children that needed "the rod" (The Word of God/Jesus) to bring correction (2 Tim 3:16). Selah!!!
