Psalm 89:39 Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.
We saw where God voided the first covenant because of the weakness of *our flesh* (Rom 8:3). And established the new upon better promises (Heb 7:8) i.e. its established by his Word/law, by virtue of his *Spirit*, being in us. His law written on flesh tables of the heart vs written in tables of stone (2 Cor 3:3)
In establishing the new, our other covenant is/was made void (of no effect).
Isaiah 28:15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
When we walk as led by flesh, we are living a lie. In the next verse, we see God's response to our covenant with death:
Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste....18 And *your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand*; ......
The crown (power) of our covenant with death is sin (which flesh leads us to do) but Christ death on the cross (and our death in him) renders the covenant with death, like a bee without a stinger, like a toothless lion i.e. powerless. And now:
Romans 7:6 *But now* we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that *we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.*
