Psalm 89:39 Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.

God made a promise that the day was coming when he would make a new covenant.

Jeremiah 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

That day, that new covenant, was established in Christ:

Hebrews 8:6-7 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. [7] For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.

The fault was not in the covenant (cause God's word is perfect).. the fault lied with the man (see verse 8 & 9), our inability to keep it the law. And now a conundrum.

The word of God is perfect and he said he will not alter or add to it. How then can God make a new covenant with better promises, without altering or adding to the previous one?

Isaiah 42:21 The Lord is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; *he will magnify the law*, and make it honourable.

The new covenant is a magnification of the old. When the old is magnified, we see the from Genesis to Malachi, it's ALL about Jesus. Nothing was added to or changed in his word, but rather magnified... i.e. he revealed what was already there for righteousness sake. Time won't allow us to examine all of this practically.. but let's consider one element of this magnification.

Circumcision was required for ALL the sons of/in Israel. Failure to perform same means that you were cut off from the people (Gen 17:10-14). Today, the same is expected by God.. all his sons (male and female) are to be circumcised (cut off flesh from their private part - the mind is the private part in spirit).

The magnification reveals, that the true essence of circumcision in the eyes of God, is that of the heart, the physical observance was but a shadow to point us to the reality in Christ. Covenant for flesh was made void, Spirit was established. Not a change, but deeper revelation from God. Selah!
