Psalm 90:13 Return, O LORD! How long? And have compassion on Your servants.
Here again scripture points us to the Messiah. In him, God's compassion toward us was on full display. How? As our high priest. Consider what makes a high priest effective:
Hebrews 5:1-2 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins: [2] Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.
Compassion is key in the function of a priest.
Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
All that we feel, he felt it. Someone may say, but he never sinned so how could he feel all that we feel.
2 Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin *to be sin* for us....
There is no sin ever committed that wasn't placed on him. So he felt it all. And therefore, he can show compassion, as our high priest, when interceding on our behalf. If we are in him, we ought to do the same in our roles as priest.
