Jesus did not say that disasters have no relationship to the sins of the people in that city. They may have, or they may not have a direct relationship.
What we can be sure of, is that if we do not REPENT, and turn from sin to worship God, we will come to a horrible end. That is what Jesus taught, and the church should teach it too. But I fear our theology and practice has become tainted with the prevailing philosophy of humanism, which judges what is good based on what makes people happy. God loves us, but goodness and blessing comes to us on His terms, not on ours, and is for His gloryand purposes, not ours.
