The first movement in the sermon to the Hebrews is built on the warning of Psalm 95:8 with its implicit invitation to enter the rest that remains for us in Christ. But, what hope is there for us if we, like the wilderness generation, struggle with sin and rebellious tendencies? We need to see in Jesus not only that we have a great high priest, but also that we have a sympathetic high priest – one who has suffered like us.
