Jesus going to the cross wasn’t merely one of many possible options. It was THE singular will of God. It was THE singular road that led to Christ being exalted, lifted up, entering into His glory. So Jesus was saying that His going to the cross wasn’t just fortunate for us, but absolutely necessary so that God’s will would be accomplished, and so that He would be glorified.
