Haggai (part 4) “Coronation”

Haggai is God’s messenger, and his final recorded message is a Messianic prophecy directed at Zerubbabel.
The message dates to December 18, 520 BC. Haggai gave 2 messages that day.
Zerubbabel was the governor of Judah and needed encouragement to lead the Jews to rebuild the temple.
Haggai says there will be an overthrow of the gentile kingdoms. Haggai 2:21-22
The change in world government will be military as well as political. Other prophets have given prophecies like this. The message is about The Messiah’s return and the promise of Christ’s victory over the power’s darkness.

Three facts are given in verse 23:
1. The Lord will fulfill this prophecy in the future.
2. The Lord will make Zerubbabel like a ‘signet ring,’ a person who has the seal of royal authority.
3. The Lord will appoint Zerubbabel a representative of the Messiah through David’s line.

Haggai was telling Zerubbabel that what was taking place had an eternal purpose and was specifically pointing to The Day when The Messiah will return.
The temple will be rebuilt and filled with the Glory of The Lord. The final Son of David, Jesus Christ, will rule in it in peace and righteousness.
Zerubbabel was to encourage the people to build God His house. This did not have only short-term results but long-term significance.
God is speaking through Haggai to one specific person (Zerubbabel) at that time and is letting him know that he is important to God’s plan and purpose, both then and in the future.
This message focuses on the Coronation of Jesus.
