Glorifying God 1 Peter 4:7-11
I) Our Purpose V.7-9
• V.7 End is near: Urgency to fulfill purpose as God intends.
• Clear minded (sober) – sound mind, right mind, sane.
o Colossians 3:2
o Romans 8:5-7
• Self Controlled: Literally, vigilant, keep watch. Be alert, aware the enemy seeks to throw off our focus. (See again 5:8-9).
• Pray: Clear mind & aware, prepare to pray effectively.
• V.8 Love deeply: Imperative, “above all things” (foremost, of highest importance or priority). Love like Jesus.
o John 13:34-35
• Love covers multitude of sins (forgiveness).
• V.9 Hospitable without Grumbling:
o Hospitable: kind, generous, friendly.
o Grumbling: murmuring, complaining
• Summary: Purpose to glorify God is evident when we have a clear mind, are alert & self-controlled, can pray effectively. Allows us to love & forgive others, be kind for God’s glory.
II) Serving in God’s Power For His Glory V.10-11
• V.10 Gifted to serve with grace/power.
• Stewards of God’s gifts, utilize wisely.
• Speak as sharing God’s words.
o Luke 21:14-15
o 1Corinthians 2:1-5
o Hebrews 4:12
• Serving in God’s strength enhances how to use gifts.
• When we glorify God, lives change. Serve to build God’s Kingdom.
In every way, bring God praise. Build a witness to our community so we can share God’s message.
