REVELATION CHAPTER 2 (continued):
·       The Church of Smyrna… Smyrna was located on a small peninsula connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus at the northeastern corner of the inner Gulf of Izmir in modern day Turkey, and this church had Hellenistic (Greek) influence. This is the ONLY church out of seven that was not rebuked by Jesus.
Verse 8… Jesus is the Authority speaking.

Verse 9… This church body was being persecuted, in their midst were false brethren, and they were experiencing great troubles, and they were poor in this world’s goods.  What can we learn from this church? 
Matthew 5:10-12 … Luke 12:15-21…
Verse 10… Jesus promises victory. 
Numbers 23:19… Luke 12:4-5 … 1 Corinthians 15:57-58…
Verse 11… Do we have an ear to hear? If we overcome, the second death has no power over us.
Revelation 12:11 … Revelation 21:4-7…
·       The Church of Pergamos: (Verses 12-17) This church was an ancient Greek city located near the modern day city of Bergama in Turkey.  The first letter, you remember, was written to Ephesus, the church that left its first love. The second letter was written to Smyrna, the persecuted church.
Now this third letter is written to a compromising church. This church is beginning to be linked inseparably to the world. And this church has decided that it can maintain some kind of Christian credibility and also associate itself with all kinds of sin. Pergamos is a picture of any church that courts the world, any church that marries paganism in any form. The church at Pergamos is a clear warning to any believer, any Christian who weds the world, as we shall see.
Verse 12 … The sharp sword with two edges.

Verse 13…God knows where we live and what we face.

Verses 14-15… God speaks to ‘holding false doctrines’.

Verse 16… REPENT is not a suggestion.
Isaiah 11:1-4… Luke 13:1-3…
Verse 17… Do we have an ear to hear? Overcome = Greek Nikao – Get the Victory.  And the white stone is a symbol of Acquittal.
