Join me live for our next Text Reading from Psalms 41:1-2, 49:7-9, and 69:5-10, according to the Hebrew (H) and Greek (G) texts. Here is my translation of these texts which we will read and discuss:

CHAPTER 41(40)
(H) 1 To the one coordinating the music, here is a song of David: Happy is the one who gives attention to the poor [or, “to the lowly”], because during a day of distress [or, “a day of evil”] Jaho(h)-ah will deliver him.
(G) 1a. For the finale, a song to [or, “for”] David:
(G) 1b. (2) Happy is the one with understanding for the poor and for the needy. During a bad [or, “evil”] day the Lord [Jaho(h)-ah] will deliver [or, “rescue”] him.

(H) 2 Jaho(h)-ah will closely watch the one who gives attention to the poor, and he will preserve that one alive. The one giving attention to the poor will be made to become blessed in the earth, and you will not be able to give him over to the desire of his enemies.
(G) 2(3) May Lord [Jaho(h)-ah] protect him and may he keep that one alive and may he bless him in the earth, and may he not give him over into the hands of his enemies.

CHAPTER 49(48)
(H) 7 Those who are trusting in their own strength and in an abundance of wealth will boast of their self-confidence.
(G) 7 The ones who have persuaded on the basis of their power, and those who are boasting in the abundance of their riches—

(H) 8 See! [or, “Alas!” (Hebrew, 'ach, which can also mean, “brother”]. There is nothing to offer in ransom. Even if one offers a man as a ransom, he cannot give to God the price of his life.
(G) 8 a brother cannot redeem. Will he redeem a man? He will not give to God his ransom,

(H) 9 For even though a man will be deemed valuable as a ransom for his soul [or, life (intensive plural)], even he will come to an end in the future.
(G) 9 even the price for the ransoming of his soul,

CHAPTER 69
(H) 5 Those hating me without reason have become many, more than the hairs of my head. Those who are trying to destroy me have become strong, the ones who are mistreating me with deception. What I had not stolen, I began to return.
(G) 5 Those who hated me without cause were made to multiply more than the number of hairs on my head. My enemies, those who are constantly distressing me without justice, became strong. I did not even carry off those things I was paying for at that time.

(H) 6 God, you yourself have known my stupidity and my sins, and from you they have not been concealed.
(G) 6 God, you understood [or, “you knew”] my stupidity, and my shortcomings were not hidden from you.

(H) 7 May those hoping in you not become ashamed on my account, O Lord Jaho(h)-ah with spirit warriors. May those who seek you not become dishonored because of me, O God of Israel.
(G) 7 Lord [Jaho(h)-ah], let those who are enduring for your sake not become ashamed because of me, O Lord [Jaho(h)-ah] of great powers. Let those who are earnestly seeking you not become ashamed because of me, God of Israel.

(H) 8 For because of you I have carried disgrace [or, “the taunt of the enemy”]. Shame has covered my face.
(G) 8 Because for your sake I endured insults [or, “reproaches”]; shame covered my face.

(H) 9 I have become divided against my brothers, and I have become a foreigner to the sons of my mother.
(G) 9 I became one who has been made to be a stranger to my brothers, and a foreigner to the sons of my mother.

(H) 10 Because passion [or, “zeal”] for your house has consumed me, and the taunts of the enemies who are reproaching you have fallen upon me.
(G) 10 Because passion [or, “zeal”] for your house consumed me, and the insults of those reproaching you fell upon me.
