Join me at 4:00 PM today (California time) as we continue our series on where and how the Bible contradicts the Trinity. While we realize many have been raised believing in the Trinity, If the Trinity is not actually taught in the Bible, it should not be required belief for Christians. Indeed, if what is explicitly taught in the Bible contradicts the Trinity it is best to avoid using it when it comes to worshiping the biblical God.

The twenty-first texts we will use to show the Trinity conflicts with the Bible are John 17:3 and 1 John 5:20. Both of these texts describe one who is the “true God,” in contrast to Jesus. In fact, Jesus explicitly describes the Father as the “only true God” in John 17:3. Then in 1 John 5:20 “him who is true” is further identified as the “true God” in contrast to “his Son” in 1 John 5:20, showing once again the Trinity is in conflict with the Bible by teaching the “true God” is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Bible, including Jesus himself, rejects any teaching other than the Father as the “true God,” indeed, the “only true God.”

But how can the Father be the “only true God” without making Jesus and the other sons of God, whom Jesus and God say are “gods” (Psalm 82:6; John 10:34-36), false gods? What does “true” mean in the Bible? Finally, who, or what, is the “eternal life” that is connected with the Father as the true God in both John 17:3 and 1 John 5:20? The answer to this last question may surprise you, but it is explicitly given in both texts, showing conclusively Jesus is not the “true God,” neither is he a false God. He is the “only-begotten god,” one of the sons of God “gods.”—John 1:18.
