“THE BOOK OF JOSHUA ~ a Type & Shadow” A-048 (06-01-22) Joshua 10:1-5
-------------------------------------------------------
On this week’s episode is lesson #48, let’s look at Joshua 10:1-5 as we continue this study.
● Joshua 10:1 (New English Translation) says, “Adoni-Zedek {'ăḏōnî-ṣeḏeq, ǎud–dō’’–nēē–tsĕh’–dĕck}, king of Jerusalem {yᵊrûšālam, yĕr–ŏŏ–shǎw–lǎh’–ī–am}, heard how Joshua captured Ai {ʿay, īēē} and annihilated it and its king as he did Jericho {yᵊhôšûaʿ, yĕh–hō–shŏŏ’–ǎh} and its king. He also heard how the people of Gibeon made peace with Israel and lived among them.”
● Keep in mind that most everything in scripture generally conveys mankind’s perspective of their interaction with God, their human-form experience on this journey, and was most likely written down from the lens of how mankind saw the whole thing from their own understanding. Most all that any student of the word today would do is study until revelation flows. But that revelation may come across differently for me than it does for you and visa-versa.
● However, I hope we are learning to not be moved by human-interpretation such as the KJV and similar versions and translations, and are deeply motivated to understand move of the original Hebrew and Greek languages and their word meanings.
Joshua 10:2 (NET) says, “All Jerusalem was terrified because Gibeon was a large city, like one of the royal cities. It was larger than Ai and all its men were warriors.”
● Now, the object of this fear was due to Gibeon being such a large city, and this verse says, “like one of the royal cities,” and it was “larger than Ai and all its men were warriors” and yet were now submitted under Joshua. When scripture is interpreted this way, many people, believers and non-believers alike see the Creator as a mean God.
● Joshua 10:3 (NET) says, “So King Adoni-Zedek {'ăḏōnî-ṣeḏeq, ǎud–dō’’–nēē–tsĕh’–dĕck} of Jerusalem {yᵊrûšālam, yĕr–ŏŏ–shǎw–lǎh’–ī–am} sent this message to King Hoham {hôhām, hō–hǎwm’} of Hebron {ḥeḇrôn, khĕv–rōne}, King Piram {pirdd'ām, pĭr–ǎwm’} of Jarmuth {yarmûṯ, yǎrdd–mōōth’}, King Japhia {yāp̄îaʿ, yǎw–fēē’–ǎh} of Lachish {lāḵîš, lǎw–khēēsh’}, and King Debir {dᵊḇîr, dǎh–vēērdd} of Eglon {ʿeḡlôn, ĕgg–lōawn’}:”
● Joshua 10:4 (NET) says, “Come to my aid {Heb. help me} so we can attack Gibeon, for it has made peace with Joshua and the Israelites,” which the translators titled this section as, “The southern kings of Canaan assemble for an attack on Gibeon.”
● From www.preceptaustin.org, notes, “Acting on his fear, Adoni-Zedek {'ăḏōnî-ṣeḏeq, ǎud–dō’’–nēē–tsĕh’–dĕck} began to organize the kings of southern Canaan. Since Israel occupied the land to their north, he could not get help from the kings of northern Canaan.” Why? I think it was for the same reason the king of Jerusalem asked for help, they were afraid of Joshua and the children of Israel and therefore, the northern kings would not join with the king of Jerusalem.
● Joshua 10:5 (NET) “So the five Amorite kings (the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon) and all their troops gathered together and advanced. They deployed their troops and fought against Gibeon.”
● To form alliances with those who have bad or evil intensions can be an unhealthy thing for us. However, as we have been talking about the wandering tribes of Canaan as an allegory for the wandering thoughts within the soul of mankind. The bottom line is that we should see this story more than for its historical value, but as a message Father-God is trying to get to us so that we can be inspired as to how we deal with thoughts that rise up as enemies to the God-mind within us, and how to deal with them.
● The truth is that Christ manifested as visible to show mankind a loving Father, and to demonstrate that mankind in his or her human-form, and even though we came here upright and forgot who we were, still we have been reconciled or reconnected to the Christ-mind so that we can think like God and act like God, because As He is, so are we in this world. I hope you were enlightened and inspired to “dig deep into the well of Father’s mind within” as you watch this video lesson!
