“THE BOOK OF JOSHUA ~ a Type & Shadow” A-050 (06-22-22) Joshua 10:12-16

This week’s episode was lesson #50, as we look at Joshua 10:12-16 in this continuing study.
● Joshua 10:12 (New English Translation) says, “The day the LORD delivered the Amorites over to the Israelites, Joshua prayed to the LORD before Israel: “O sun, stand still over Gibeon; O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon!”
● The Hebrew word for “sun” is šemeš {shĕh’–mĕsh} and interpreted from an unused root word as to be brilliant. The Hebrew word for “moon” is yārēaḥ {yǎwdd–rāy’–ǎwkh} and comes from a word interpreted as a lunation, or lunar month. The Hebrew word for “Aijalon” is ‘ayyālôn {aī–yǎw–lōne’} {ī–jǎ–lǎwn} and is interpreted as deer-field, or field of deer. Together I see a type and shadow the “sun” and allegorically, refers to “the Son” of God who stood brilliantly over Gibeon as if to shine blessings of protection upon them. The lunar month is a type of an appointed time or moment when this blessing was needed.
● Joshua 10:13 (NET) says, “The sun stood still and the moon stood motionless while the nation took vengeance on its enemies. The event is recorded in the Scroll of the Upright One. The sun stood motionless in the middle of the sky and did not set for about a full day.”
● From www.preceptaustin.org, “The sun standing still would give Joshua more light in which to fulfill what the LORD had promised him in Joshua 10:8 that “not one of them shall stand before you.” This would allow Joshua to literally utterly destroy these 5 Amorite armies. Imagine the consternation of the pagans who worshiped the heavenly bodies and sought help from them. First they experience hail from heaven and then prolongation of light from heaven. Sadly they recognized the impotence of their so-called deities too late. Sadly, the same will happen to all who reject Christ and His gospel.”
● Joshua 10:14 (NET) says, “There has not been a day like it before or since. The LORD listened to a human being, for the LORD fought for Israel!”
● From www.preceptaustin.org, “What a beautiful description showing that the LORD was intimately involved from beginning to end. This leads to the concluding statement in Joshua 10:42 “the LORD, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.” This also leads us to a statement made from www.preceptaustin.org asking, “Are you involved in spiritual warfare as you read this note?”
While there is plenty of suggestions about “spiritual warfare” in the English Bible, we also have plenty of the flip-side of the coin concerning “entering into rest” which Father-God provided for His creation.
● Joshua 10:15 (NET) says, “Then Joshua and all Israel returned to the camp at Gilgal.”
● Sometimes it seems that some of the details were left out when the scriptures were canonized into what we have as a Bible, but also this is why we have the Fullness of the God-head literally intertwined within us, so that Holy Spirit continues to guide us into all truth, even by revealing things that are unwritten or added to the canonized scriptures.
● Joshua 10:16 (NET) says, “The five Amorite kings ran away and hid in the cave at Makkedah.”
● For our wandering thoughts to conform to the truth that has always been true of you, that means that all of our unrenewed thoughts must be transformed by “the renewing of your mind,” which in time brings out the manifestation of the end-result of who you were created as, which was declared from the very beginning.
● I think the bottom line here is that this whole scenario showing us the battles fought by Joshua and the children of Israel are just more types and shadows that unveil the truth that declares, “every battle you face only began within the wandering thoughts of your own mind, and can never evolve and become confrontations that turn into a battle as long as you remain at peace, and in the Father’s rest” which was created within you as a spirit-being who was make in Father’s image and likeness; only to reflect Him within yourself, and to all around you.
