“THE BOOK OF JOSHUA ~ a Type & Shadow” A-061 (09-28-22) Today: Joshua 12:6-24
-----------------------------------------------------------
This week’s episode was lesson #61 from Joshua 12:6-24 as we continue in this study.
Joshua 12:6 (New English Translation) says, “6 Moses the LORD’s servant and the Israelites defeated them and Moses the LORD’s servant assigned their land to Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.”
● To “assigned their land,” a translator’s note (tn) says, the Hebrew renders this as “gave it for a possession.” My thoughts on this commentary is that “we must also remember that God has revealed all these things to us by Holy Spirit of which the ultimate revelation is the truth of who Jesus really is, as the Eternal Christ and not the Jesus of 33 and one half years. If we do not understand that we are spirit, made visible by being projected as flesh, then we also have not grasped the revelation of Jesus being the Living Expression of God, who became a man, or literally was made visible.
Joshua 12:7-8 (NET) says, “7 These are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the Israelites defeated on the west side of the Jordan, from Baal Gad in the Lebanon Valley to Mount Halak up to Seir. Joshua assigned this territory to the Israelite tribes, 8 including the hill country, the foothills, the rift valley, the slopes, the wilderness, and the Negev—the land of the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites:”
● Various study notes show us “the transition region between the Judean hill country and the Mediterranean coastal plain. These are areas of eocene limestone with a distinct pattern of erosion, soil, and vegetation cover.” And to sum it up, a translator’s note (tn) from the NET Bible says, “The words “the land of” are supplied in the translation for clarification.”
Joshua 12:9-23 (NET) says, “9 the king of Jericho (one), the king of Ai—located near Bethel—(one), 10 the king of Jerusalem (one), the king of Hebron (one), 11 the king of Jarmuth (one), the king of Lachish (one), 12 the king of Eglon (one), the king of Gezer (one), 13 the king of Debir (one), the king of Geder (one), 14 the king of Hormah (one), the king of Arad (one), 15 the king of Libnah (one), the king of Adullam (one), 16 the king of Makkedah (one), the king of Bethel (one), 17 the king of Tappuah (one), the king of Hepher (one), 18 the king of Aphek (one), the king of Lasharon (one), 19 the king of Madon (one), the king of Hazor (one), 20 the king of Shimron Meron (one), the king of Acshaph (one), 21 the king of Taanach (one), the king of Megiddo (one), 22 the king of Kedesh (one), the king of Jokneam near Carmel (one), 23 the king of Dor—near Naphath Dor—(one), the king of Goyim—near Gilgal—(one), 24 the king of Tirzah (one), a total of thirty-one kings.”
● This shows us that “these descriptions are also important because they make it clear that these things happened at a real time, and in real places. These are not fairy tales that begin with “once upon a time,” this is history that begins with specific places and people and rulers. As well, it was a way that Israel could forever remember the great things God had done for them.
● The remainder of verses sounds like a bunch of historical information that some people may not be interested in, however, to look at this from a “systematic theological” view which means not to look at only a specific portion of scripture, but to take an over-all view of what God was trying to say which in this case is not just about battles, wars, and the elimination of nations of people. This is the practical and historical picture painted here, yet the behind the senses message or even the allegorical message here is that of Father’s provision guaranteeing the defeat of all of the wandering thoughts of unrenewed thinking within the soul of mankind.
● This book is filled with the allegorical picture as a type and shadow of the wandering thoughts within the soul or mind of mankind, showing us just how doable it is to not only conquer our own unrenewed thoughts, but also control every thought, even to the point of bring them into obedience to the Christ-mind within. I hope you were enlightened and inspired to “dig deep into the well of Father’s mind within” as you watch this video lesson!
