The Third Sunday of Lent

This week’s word from the cross is a word of compassion. “Woman, behold, your son! . . . Behold, your mother!” The disciples had fled in fear. Only the women remained, along with the disciple whom Jesus loved. Mary, His mother, her sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene together with John. These remained near the cross, keeping vigil.

POINTS TO PONDER
1. Is there a difference (by definition) between Mercy and Grace? Why might we need both? (Bonus question: where can you go and be sure that God’s mercy and grace will be there for you?)
2. How does this account of Jesus, while on the cross, tending to the needs of His mother and friend, encourage you?
3. Why is it that God formed His Church and why is it risky to neglect Her?
