1 Corinthians 11:14 (KJV): "Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?"

Simply, it is society or "nature" (in that time and culture) that men with long hair was considered shameful; this did not apply to the male nazarites of Numbers 6:1-21. So according to some Orthodox Judaism rabbis and Israelite elders, men with their hair longer than usual either were devout nazarites or effeminate temple prostitutes. I, a perpetual nazarite, rest my case.
