Most people have heard of the Golden Rule, Matthew 7:12, “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them.” You might be thinking, okay, but, what does that actually look like lived out? Well, using the acronym S.A.L.T. we get 4 clear answers.

In Mark chapter 9. The disciples, who knew the Golden rule, were actually arguing with each other about which one of them was the Greatest. Can you even imagine that conversation? Were they just trying to one up each other, with claims of how amazing they were? Where they cutting each other down for past failures and mistakes? We don’t know. But Jesus did.

And in Mark 9:50 he tells them, “Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.” Knowing the Golden rule, to do unto others as you would want them to do unto you. And knowing what Salt is, common, a preservative, and something that enhances flavor, what is Jesus saying? How do we live this out? Easy.

FIRST, SERVE - Be there for others. Like, Jesus we are not called to BE served, but TO serve. Our gifts, talents, and abilities are not just for our benefit, but to bless others. SECOND, APPRECIATE – Show appreciation of others. Applaud good effort. Recognize accomplishments. Say thank you regularly. THIRD, LOVE – The way Jesus loves, love others. Openly. Sacrificially. Constantly. Without expectation of return. And FORTH, TREASURE – Value others. Show them kindness, dignity and respect, always. No matter their past, or your personal differences.

When we treat others like that, When we Serve, Appreciate, Love, and Treasure those around us, we live out the Golden Rule, we become like the SALT Jesus instructs us to, and we become more of the type of men and women that we are called to be. That’s today’s Bible Munch.
