The Jonathan Factor
(Seizing Divine Moments)
Uncertainty
1 Samuel 14:1-12
1. God relates to us on a NEED --to -- KNOW basis
Jonathan said to his young armor-bearer, "Come, let's go over to the outpost of those uncircumcised fellows. Perhaps the Lord will act in our behalf. Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few." 1 Samuel 14:6
A wonderful thing about living in the realm of uncertainty is to discover that God is full of surprises.
2. Faith has two DIMENSIONS
a) First dimension faith is in the realm of possibilities but outside of our experiences.
Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. Hebrews 11:1-2
"Because you're not yet taking God seriously," said Jesus. "The simple truth is that if you had a mere kernel of faith, ...you would tell this mountain, 'Move!' and it would move. There is nothing you wouldn't be able to tackle."
Matthew 17:20 (Message)
b) Second dimension faith is in the realm of impossibilities and outside the explainable.
A wonderful thing about living in the realm of uncertainty is that it is the setting where God invites us to be creative.
3. How CONFIDENT are you?
A wonderful thing about living in the realm of uncertainty is that we learn that divine moments change not only the content of our lives, but also the value of one minute.
If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up. Daniel 3:17-18
Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas. During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, "Come over to Macedonia and help us." After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them. Acts 16:6-10
