Jesus came to usher in a new covenant, which meant a new way of doing things. The Pharisees, like many today, did not like the idea of new ways and new things; they wanted to cling to the old. Jesus taught the Pharisees and us that the old ways and old covenant cannot coexist nor be blended with the new ways and new covenant.
