The apostle Peter admonished us that we should not be surprised when trials are thrown at us (1 Peter 4:12-13). Remember now that to get gold, it goes through a process where fire is used to remove all the impurities, likewise with us, God allows trials (our fire) to bring out the pure gold in us.
