Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with fury, and the expression of his face was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He ordered the furnace heated seven times more than it was usually heated. And he ordered some of the mighty men of his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. Then these men were bound in their cloaks, their tunics, their hats, and their other garments, and they were thrown into the burning fiery furnace. Because the king's order was urgent and the furnace overheated, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell bound into the burning fiery furnace. — Daniel 3:19-23

Now I doubt that I will experience something like this during my lifetime. I could be wrong, but I think there's almost no chance. Yet I do believe we'll all encounter moments that will frighten us. Moments that we'll feel powerless and overwhelmed by someone with the upper hand. This could happen on the job, at home, or in the courtroom. We might be standing before a boss, a spouse, or a leader. But regardless, most of the time, this happens because we've done something wrong and what we've done comes with a penalty.

But this moment has nothing to do with sin. These men did not sin against God. Instead, they stood up for God, which required them to stand against a king who proclaimed to be a god. They choose to do what is right and righteous and are prepared to suffer for it at the hands of a cruel self-righteous, and angry king.

Now that we will experience. We will, or should suffer, for doing what is right and righteous in this life. I already have. I have suffered at the hands of cruel self-righteous, and angry men. These men are out there. Today they are heating things up seven times more than usual. And just because they exist and are perched at their keyboards and ready with their phones to eviscerate others with their sound-bites, we shouldn't be persuaded to back down from our faith in God. Instead, now may be the time for greater faith in a God who might be taking us to the edge of the flame because it's only when the flame of persecution is hot that we remove all possibility of natural solutions and see the work of a supernatural God.

So if things are heating up in your life, have faith a little longer. God might be waiting to provide a supernatural solution revealed through your faith that turns many toward him.
