Anyone familiar with Watchtower apologists today knows when John 6:68 comes up they have a huge problem. What is that? In this text the Watchtower Society and its apologists (who NEVER confront them over this…) replace the Lord Jesus with their own organization. They do this also with “the Truth” in texts like John 14:6. But John 6:68 may be even more outrageous given the question which is there asked.
After many leave Jesus due to his teaching (which they did not understand), Peter says to him in John 6:68, according to the NWT: “Lord, whom shall we go away to? You have sayings of everlasting life.”
For many decades the Watchtower Society and its apologists have continued to replace the “whom” in Peter’s question with “where,” in direct reference to their organization. They have done this all while claiming “the end” is so close we are in the “final part” of the last days shortly before the “last day of the last days,” to quote current Governing Body member Stephen Lett from a video widely available online today (here is one link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mrges_TxOzQ).
This is nothing new, and such end-time predictions are a notable part of the history of the Watchtower organization more so than any other modern-day religion. This is in spite of the clear biblical teaching in 1 Thessalonians 5:1 (all caps added), “Now as for the times and the seasons, brothers, you need NOTHING to be written to you,” other than the end will come “as a thief in the night,” whenever they are saying, “Peace and security!” That’s it. “Nothing” more needs to be written to Christians on this subject.
Yet, in Watchtower literature we get so much more, including predication (1914) after prediction (1925) after prediction (1975) after prediction (“this generation [which saw the events of 1914] will not pass away”). Again, none of this ‘needed to be written’ to anyone. It has brought shame and reproach on the name of God and the name of his Son, in spite of the good things for which I have given the Watchtower credit.
Nonetheless, not one single Watchtower apologist has ever had a credible response for removing “whom” from the Bible and replacing it with “where” in their literature. Not one. Instead of confronting those who claim to be sent by the Master but who do things not approved by the Master (Luke 21:8; compare Revelation 2:2), many cowardly Watchtower apologists continue to influence others to follow known liars, all out of fear of being kicked out of their organization.—John 9:22; compare Revelation 21:7-8.
This should serve as a clear warning to all those supporting the Watchtower leaders today that you are “not to go after them,” which is what Jesus told his disciples in Luke 21:8 in direct reference to those who would claim to be him while simultaneously telling people, “The end is near!”
Watchtower apologists continue to mislead people into doing just that, thereby making themselves and others subject to punishment for failing to heed the Master’s warning (Matthew 24:45-46; Luke 12:47). Why do they do this? I believe the answer is clear: They ‘love the glory from humans more than even the glory of God.”—John 12:42-44.
