OUR HOPE: GOD’S GRACE Galatians 1:6-10 No Other Hope Vee Roberts
Galatians 1:6-10
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel 7 not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one, we preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. 10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Icebreaker:
Share your childhood nickname and the story behind it. If you didn’t have a nickname share the meaning of your real name.
Discussion Questions:
1. Read Romans 12:2. What are some things in our current culture that influence our identity (beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors)?
2. How have the opinions of others affected the way you view yourself?
3. Read Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT. What does verse nine say? Why is it important for us to be reminded that our salvation is based on the work of Christ and not in human works?
4. What can you do (or how can you respond) when you hear distorted messages about yourself?
Verses and Homework on the Back
5. Paul refers to himself as a servant of Christ. Servants of Christ put into practice all they learn about pleasing their Lord. Below are some of the things we can do. Pick one to focus on this week and share why it stands out to you.
Take every thought captive to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5)
Pursue holy living (1 Peter 1:14-16)
Love brothers and sisters in the faith (1 John 3:14-15)
Instead of worrying, seek first His kingdom and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33)
Homework:
Read Galatians 2 in preparation for next week’s lesson.
Verses used:
Ephesians 2:8-9 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.
Romans 12:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
