Joshua 17:14-18 - Do You Trust God?

The tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh were given large sections of fertile land, but they were too fearful to drive out the wicked people who lived there and take full control of it. Instead, they argued with Joshua saying they needed more land to accommodate their many people. But Joshua used their own arguments against them - he showed the two tribes that if they would simply do as the LORD had commanded, they would have all the land they needed.

When God tells us what he wants us to do, we often waste time inventing "reasons" why we can't do them. But we can't be certain that the LORD will never ask us to do something without giving us the resources to get it done.

Ice Breaker: What was your least favorite food as a child? Do you still dislike it, or do you love it now?

Discuss:
1.Are you facing an obstacle in life where you need to want the solution more than you want the problem? Are there any situations where you tend to focus on the bad in your blessings and cut yourself short from receiving all of God’s promises to you?

2.In what areas of your life are you making excuses to keep from doing something that seems hard or out of your comfort zone? What are the worries or fears you have that are holding you back from taking that step of faith?

3.What are your trust issues with God and where do you think those trust struggles stem from? Are your human relationships influencing your ability to fully trust God?

4.Sometimes we face mountains that cause us to question God’s faithfulness and trustworthiness. What is one promise from God that you can stand on to remind yourself of His goodness when you face something that seems impossible to get through?

Key Takeaway: God has never (and will never) leave you or forsake you. Take one more step of faith and commit to doing what God calls you to, always keeping His faithfulness and His promises to you in mind.

Homework: In preparation for next week, read Joshua chapters 18 & 19 and journal about what stands out to you. If you want to dig deeper and do some heart work, take time this week to really assess the areas where you struggle with trusting God. Journal about it and ask God for His help in this area. Write down a promise to stand on to help you get through your tough times.
