That Israel was dispossessing the unrighteous Canaanites of their land might get Israel to think that the reason they were replacing these peoples was because they were righteous. However, that was not the reason, a point that Moses sought out to prove by telling them a story from their past at Mount Sinai. How does this story show that Israel was not righteous, and could not be inheriting Canaan for that reason? In Lesson 32 of our study of Deuteronomy we learn the answer to this question.
