There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. — Proverbs 14:12

This is a classic. The point is simple. Every man has a "way." This way is a man's manner of thinking, believing, talking, and acting. And once he becomes "set in his way," he becomes convinced that his way is right. Sometimes he is so convinced by "his way" that he believes it's the only right way to do something. And he will argue to this end. He will argue with his wife, kids, and peers about it, insisting that he's right and everyone else is wrong. And don't get me wrong, sometimes he is right — without a doubt.

But occasionally, "our way" is clouded by impenetrable biases. Biases that we will defend to the detriment of others or ourselves. And this is the death of a man. These biases are embedded so deep into our belief systems they control us, blinding us to assumptions that are dead wrong — dead wrong. (See what I did there.)

But there is hope because there is a "way that leads to life." It's a manner of thinking, believing, talking, and acting that leads to life. And guess what? I know someone who has it. And it's not you. It's another man. He is always right and never wrong. No biases control him, and his name is Jesus. And he made this crazy proclamation. It goes like this.

"I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." — John 14:6

So fellas, let's assume today that we might be wrong and Jesus is always right. And let's do things his way. And then let's die on that hill because it leads to life.

ASK THIS: Are you trying to do it your way or his way?

DO THIS: Do it his way. Resist doing it your way.

PRAY THIS: God, help me see the biases that cloud my thinking and beliefs. Renew them with your truth so that I might see your way.
